Symbols and meanings of the logo of Youngnam Culture Institute

As an affiliated organization of Kyungpook National University, Youngnam Culture Institute has studied the identity of Youngnam Studies and made efforts to get global insights by responding to the changing the times. To celebrate its 10th anniversary, we endeavor to clarify the direction of the ideal and value of the institute by creating the symbol of the institute to maintain the initial commitment made by the Establishment Committee.

Logo of Youngnam Culture Institute

Youngnam Culture Institute, an affiliated organization of Kyungpook National University, is designed to play a part in the development of the university. The logo of the Institute has symbols of Cheomseongdae, 7 stars and Osaek flower. This design is based on the symbols of Kyungpook National University: Cheomseongdae, 6 stars and a persimmon flower, because the work of the Institute is deeply related with the development of Kyungpook National University, which is the leading university in 21th century and Flagship Korean National University in the Youngnam area.

Youngnam Culture Institute enriches and revives Youngnam culture, which is based on Silla culture, in our times. In the center of the logo, Cheomseongdae symbolizes Youngnam culture based on Silla culture; above the Cheomseongdae, big twinkling stars symbolize the Institute itself, and the dynamic ellipses which envelop Cheomseongdae and stars symbolize a flower. These symbols are combined successfully and organically, clarifying the cultural tradition of the Youngnam area and the goal of the Institute.

Youngnam Culture Institute seeks mutual understanding across the ages and in all countries of the world. This goal is symbolized as the flower of the logo which is connected in vertical and horizontal direction, like a Mobius Strip. The horizontal direction stands for the east and the west symbolizing the world-wide values in Korean Regional Studies. The vertical direction stands for all ages of past and present symbolizing the goal to develop a creative futuristic vision from the traditional culture.

The harmony of the various colors in the flower symbolizes balance between freedom and order. The east and the west, the south and the north are liberal with various colors but at the same time dance together in harmony promoting coexistence. This group dance is impossible without love, therefore, the horizontal and vertical axis creates the shape of heart ‘♡’. Emotional solidarity is an essential factor for developing Youngnam culture.
